These living grass portraits by Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey are created by exposing grass to varying degrees of light and using the natural color variants created by the process of photosynthesis to act in a manner similar to film processing.

    About their work:

Dan Harvey and Heather Ackroyd are fascinated by grass – its birth and growth, the way in which it dies and, in particular, its chromatic variations. They make use of this material for a many of their works: large-scale installations where grass covers entire walls or buildings, large canvases where traditional painting is substituted by the lush growth of grass or by the experimental use of photographic images. The deployment of this organic material as an artistic material puts the theme of the precariousness of natural organic matter at the heart of their work – by its very nature, grass degrades and dies in a short time frame, and Ackroyd & Harvey’s works die along with it.
